A market leading company visited Reading College on Friday 18 May to give students the lowdown on microphone design and recording technology.
Sontronics design and manufacturer mics and preamps (electronic amplifiers). The company counts Adele, Ed Sheeran, Take That and Chase and Status as clients.
Trevor Coley, Sontronics Managing Director said:
“Without music, life would be very dull, and music education generally doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. By coming into colleges like this one, we can add to the student experience by sharing miking techniques.”
When asked how the Sontronics session had helped him, Toby Thackray, a Level 3 Year 2 music student said:
“I’ve seen that I should experiment more with mics for different instruments. I record at home and at college and today has definitely inspired me.”
Mike Bandoni, Faculty Manager Creative Art, added:
“We invite employers in as guest speakers to enrich the learning experience. It’s important that students get to meet with employers so they gain further insight into what the world of work will expect of them and their skills.”
There are plans to extend similar visits to the Oxford campus.
